Acting…what a delight!

Sometimes in small villages, initiatives of love of art and culture raise up. What a delight!

Originally, there is a very old small building in ruins, near the Portal Aiguier in Saint- Saturnin- lès-Apt (Luberon, Provence, France). The owner Jacques Chanet wanted to create an endowment fund “L’Atelier de Chaupierre” so as to restore this building and to turn it into an artistic place. In the framework of a Patrimony Training Program of the association Acta Vista, seven job seekers acquired in one year, during this restoration, a professional qualification of mason of old buildings. Thus from the outset, even in the structure, there is a vocation of opening art to all publics.

The association “Les Ateliers du Portail” was created with the aim of both anchoring “The Atelier de Chaupierre” in local life and making it live through artistic events (workshops, exhibitions, lectures, artists residencies ) that highlight all forms of artistic creations, without limiting its action to this site.

“Les Ateliers du Portail”, space of exchange, is meant to break the distance between artists and a varied public invited to become a player whenever possible.
By allowing different artists to work together, either on a common work or on a common theme, “Les Ateliers du Portail” favours meetings between creators.
They should also contribute to enriching reflection on local cultural policy and its involvement in terms of access for everybody to the world of  arts.

A transformist place

The aim is to offer workshops of artistic practices. Led by skilled artists, attendees will investigate all kinds of disciplines during a weekend time

I started the series with “the art of collage in all its seams”. Obviously everyone believes  they know this extremely abundant art. However, this technique has many ways to be undertaken.
It favors spontaneity, authenticity and frees creativity. With a skilled teacher, it always allows amazing results and that even if one feels beginner.

Max Ernest defined the collage in the following way: «Coupling of two uncoupling realities in a way which apparently does not suit them. »

This situation is nonsense. But it is precisely by overcoming those challenges that poetry of the composition is going to rise up.

Once again, although attendees were mostly beginners, I was impressed by their creativity and their requirements as regards their work. I am always amazed by the very different renderings obtained despite same instructions. And above all, attendees are upset by the 7 hours in a row bent over their work, fully concentrated even forgetting to stop for lunch at noon. But I know quite very well that when we create, we forget everything, we get caught up by the game and we are surprised by what we are able to achieve. A real discovery for some ones, who expect to reproduce the experience. Congratulations!
